Netflix scored a leading 16 Oscar nominations on Thursday, most of which were awarded to “Emilia Pérez,” a genre-spanning musical drama about a drug kingpin who undergoes gender affirming surgery. The streamer also received nominations for “Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl” in the best animated feature category and for Pablo Larraín’s “Maria” for cinematography. Universal, the company behind “Wicked,” earned 13 nominations while its specialty division Focus Features collected 12 for the papal drama “Conclave” and director Robert Eggers’ “Nosferatu” remake.
