Stephen Graham Among Cast of ‘Top Boy’ Star Ashley Walters’ Directorial Debut ‘Animol’ as Production Begins (EXCLUSIVE)

Stephen Graham, Sharon Duncan-Brewster, Tut Nyuot and Vladyslav Baliuk will star in the prison-set drama for Film4, Sky and the BFI.

“Animol” — written by Nick Love (“The Football Factory,” “A Town Called Malice”) — draws on Walters’ own experiences and is described by the filmmakers as a “searing portrayal of life within the confines of a Young Offenders’ institution” and a “raw and poignant coming-of-age story highlights the power of humanity in the midst of adversity.” BAFTA winner Stephen Graham(“Help,” “Boiling Point,” “The Virtues”) joins the cast as a welfare officer tasked with supporting the young offenders during their incarceration, while Sharon Duncan-Brewster (“Dune: Part One,” “Enola Holmes 2”) rounds out the lineup. It’s fantastic to see the stellar cast of best-of-British and emerging talent now bringing this powerful story to life, which promises to deliver a captivating viewing experience,” said Sky’s director of original film, Julia Stuart.
