The Duchess of Edinburgh was given her unexpected title when she married Prince Edward in 1999 - but was originally offered one that eventually went to the Princess of Wales in 2011
The couple first met during a charity event at the Queen's Tennis Club in London in 1993 and announced their engagement six years later on January 6, 1999.
