Sophia Loren Hopes “Never To Retire” As Academy Museum & Cinecittà Pay Tribute With ‘La Diva di Napoli’ Screening Series


Screening through November at the Academy Museum, 'Sophia Loren: La Diva di Napoli' features some of the actress' most iconic films.

After nearly 75 years of acting onscreen as one of the last remaining stars of Hollywood’s Golden Age, the Oscar winner tells Deadline that when it comes to reinvention and career longevity, her “secret is never to have a plan B,” and legacy is the last thing on her mind. In Vittorio De Sica’s World War II drama, Loren plays Italian widow Cesira, who leaves Rome with her daughter Rosetta (Eleonora Brown) when the city comes under attack by Allied forces. Coming from Pozzuoli I pictured Hollywood like a version of Oz, a fairytale city filled with fantasy and color but what I saw was fields of orange trees and desert.
