Sony Pictures is buying Alamo Drafthouse

Sony Pictures Entertainment has bought dine-in movie theater chain Alamo Drafthouse, the companies announced Wednesday.

It rose to popularity and has a passionate fanbase due to its dine-in and cocktail menus and its reputation as an oasis for film buffs with its strict no-talking rules. Alamo Drathouse’s CEO Michael Kustermann will remain in his position, but will now report to Ravi Ahuja, President and COO of SPE. “The deal reinforces SPE’s long-held commitment to theatrical exhibition and continued initiatives in experiential entertainment,” the press release said.
