Sitcom legend John Amos, known for roles in Good Times and Roots, has died at the age of 84. His son announced the news in an emotional statement as he paid tribute to his father

A sitcom icon has died at the age of 84, with his son remembering his “heart of gold”. Most recently in Suits LA playing himself and our documentary about his life journey as an actor, America’s Dad. John was known for his role in Good Times between 1974 and 1979 (Image: Bud Yorkin/Norman Lear/Tandem/Kobal/REX/Shutterstock)However, John soon found fame on the small screen when he secured the role of weatherman Gordy Howard on The Mary Tyler Moore Show between 1970 and 1973.
