Singer Nezza On Singing Spanish Version Of National Anthem Against Dodgers’ Wishes: “I Needed To Do It, Para Mi Gente”

Singer Nezza explained why she sang the Spanish version of the national anthem at the Los Angeles Dodgers game yesterday, against the team's wishes.

Singer and social media personality Nezza, who sang the Spanish-language version of the national anthem at the Los AngelesDodgers game yesterday, shared a tear-filled video explaining her decision to do so against the team’s wishes. Commissioned in 1945 by the U.S. State Department in order to foster a better relationship with Latin America, Nezza said, “because of this, I didn’t think I would be met with any sort of, like, ‘No.’ Especially ’cause we’re in L.A. and with everything happening,” referencing president Donald Trump’s sending of National Guard troops and Marines to quell largely peaceful protests taking place in the City of Angels over a harsh escalation in ICE raids. Despite having a strong Latino fanbase and hosting events like Mexican and Salvadoran heritage nights, the group has remained largely mum on the escalation of ICE sweeps, with executive vice president and chief marketing officer Lon Rosen announcing the team will not release a statement about the situation.
