Simon Cowell Says His 'Dream' Is to Have Son Eric, 11, Take Over AGT One Day: 'I Would Love That' (Exclusive)

Simon Cowell is the creator of 'America's Got Talent' and has no plans to retire any time soon — but if that day were to come, Cowell tells PEOPLE he'd love for his son Eric to take over. "That would be my dream," Cowell says.

The America's Got Talent creator opens up to PEOPLE about the milestone 20th season of the NBC hit, as well as balancing his many roles, including being a judge and executive producer of the show and a father to son Eric, 11. Asked whether Eric — who Cowell shares with fiancée Lauren Silverman — wants to follow in his footsteps, the TV personality isn't too sure where his son stands, but admits nothing would make him happier. Until that day comes, Cowell says he'll remain busy at work on AGT, noting that each year the "level of talent generally has just gotten better from when we first started to now."
