Sigourney Weaver receives the Golden Lion for lifetime achievement on the opening night of the Venice Film Festival
“Thank you for this jet fuel of encouragement.” She later added that her Golden Lion would be “sitting next to me on the plane, it will be next to be in the gondola and my husband will have to get used to having it in bed with us.” Before being handed the award, there was a surprise video featuring James Cameron, who noted that Weaver was “way over due for that Oscar.” Earlier in the day, Weaver got emotional during the festival press conference when a reporter suggested that her groundbreaking work as Ripley may have laid foundations of female empowerment on screen that helped give rise to Kamala Harris potentially become U.S. president.
