Sigourney Weaver ‘Wasn’t Thrilled’ About ‘All the Guns’ on ‘Aliens,’ but James Cameron Convinced Her: Ripley ‘Needs to Defend Herself’

At a Venice masterclass, Sigourney Weaver said she didn't realize at first how many guns were in James Cameron's 'Aliens.'

Sigourney Weaver delivered a career-spanning masterclass at the Venice Film Festival on Thursday, and of course touched on her time leading the “Alien” franchise as Ellen Ripley. The “Alien” and “Avatar” star also gave a press conference earlier on Wednesday, during which she got emotional when a reporter suggested that her performances have helped pave the way for Kamala Harris to be the first woman U.S. president. Other big names giving masterclasses at Venice include Peter Weir, who is also receiving a Golden Lion, and Ethan Hawke.
