Shock as major awards show cancelled for 2024 - as organisers promise it will return
The MTV Movie and TV Awards have been postponed this year and is expected to return in 2025 with a new format
The 2023 ceremony was originally to be hosted by Drew Barrymore, but the Hollywood actress dropped out in an act of solidarity with the 2023 Writers Guild of America strike. She said at the time: “I have listened to the writers, and in order to truly respect them, I will pivot from hosting the MTV Movie and TV Awards live in solidarity with the strike. The Big winners from last year’s show included HBO’s The Last of Us, Scream VI, Top Gun: Maverick, and Wednesday.
