Severe 80mph winds forecast heading for UK with 'mega gales' set to hit


A deep area of low pressure is due to bring a mega storm to the UK later this week as the Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for wind on Friday through until Saturday morning

Friday looks set for the worst of it, particularly in Northern Ireland and western Scotland, where wind could reach even higher speeds, especially along rugged coastlines and lofty peaks. Gearing up for tumultuous times ahead, Met Office Deputy chief meteorologist, Chris Almond, gave the lowdown: "A very deep area of low pressure will bring a very unsettled, potentially disruptive, spell of weather to the UK through Friday and into Saturday. The strong winds will pick up speed ans strength by the weekend (Image: WXCharts)Meanwhile, today's weather is set to remain cloudy with outbreaks of rain across central parts of the UK.
