X/@SenTedCruz Tweeting thrice, Cruz initially considered it “just one great big beautiful bill to rebuild the military, to secure the border, and to cut taxes-well, certainly for the service workers through his ‘No Tax on Tips’ program.” Then in a video statement, he issued an urgent plea, “Failure is not an option,” as everyone was rushing to get the bill passed before the end of the legislative session. Some other comments felt that Cruz’s priorities were out of line: for one person, he was serving “Israel first” over American interests, while another compared the bill’s reckless spending to “a power grab similar to the one Hitler and the Nazis used.” More taunts for serious national security came from skeptics, noting that the bill itself works billions of new dollars into submarines and destroyers amid record revenues for the military. An anonymous conservative replied warning that doing this will cost the Republicans seats on the next election; rather should Cruz put forth his efforts in extending Trump’s 2017 tax cuts.
