Selena Gomez DEFENDS her Spanish in Emilia Perez after well known Mexican actor criticized her

Selena Gomez was forced to defend her Spanish speaking skills in her film Emilia Perez on Saturday evening after receiving criticism from a well known Mexican actor.

On Saturday evening, the 32-year-old actress responded to a viral clip of Mexican actor Eugenio Derbez's criticizing her work and accent in the highly anticipated Netflix original that was release last month. In the musical-thriller, Gomez's character Jessi Del Monte — the wife of a Mexican drug cartel kingpin — is an American speaking Spanish and had previously fled to Switzerland which could explain her accent choice. Last month, Gomez opened up to Remezcla about speaking Spanish in Netflix’s Emilia Perez in which she said she wished she had more time to practice the language and that she hopes to take on similar roles in the future.
