Sam Rockwell Says He Regrets Never Doing a Movie with Friend Philip Seymour Hoffman Before His Death
Sam Rockwell said he regrets not seizing opportunities to act onscreen with his late friend Philip Seymour Hoffman, who died in 2014. "We were very close. We were good friends and he directed me and he was just one of the guys," Rockwell said.
During Rockwell's appearance on the Friday, June 20 episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the actor said he wishes he could have worked more closely with Hoffman, who died at 46 in 2014. Rockwell famously dedicated his 2018 Oscar win for Best Supporting Actor to Hoffman, whom he called his "old buddy" during his speech at the time. During Rockwell's Happy Sad Confused appearance, he also compared Hoffman's "kind of transformational chameleon-like skills" to actors like Meryl Streep, Don Cheadle and Morgan Freeman, among others.
