In April, she sent them on their merry way while she basked in the sun on “ Espresso.” But on the latest single from her recently-announced studio album Short n’ Sweet, “Please Please Please,” the singer and songwriter is trying her best to hold onto that serenity, pleading: “Please, please, please/Don’t bring me to tears/When I just did my makeup so nice.” The story sees the singer linking up with beau Barry Keoghan as she sings, “I heard that you’re an actor, so act like a stand-up guy/Whatever devil’s inside you, don’t let him out tonight,” before begging, “Please, please, please/Don’t prove I’m right.” “There was something really exciting about the fact that there was so much personality throughout the entire song, because those are the ones that are really, really fun to sing live with a crowd,” Carpenter told Apple Music’s Zane Lowe about the single earlier this year.
