Ryan Gosling: ‘Angry Birds’ Box Office Success ‘Destroyed’ Chances of ‘The Nice Guys’ Sequel. “So much of a sequel, I think, is decided by the opening weekend of a movie,” the actor said of the 2016 dark comedy

Ryan Gosling revealed that the slated sequel for 'The Nice Guys' was scrapped due to the box office success of 'Angry Birds.'

However, according to Gosling, there was no “The Nice Guys” sequel due to animated film “ The Angry Birds Movie ” taking over their shared box office weekend. “The Nice Guys” was set in 1977 Los Angeles, with Gosling playing a private investigator alongside his partner (Russell Crowe) as they try to unravel the disappearance of a teenage girl. Director Black told IndieWire that “The Nice Guys” was in the works since 2001, and was reinvented as a TV show for CBS in 2006 before becoming a feature released in 2016.
