The film, in which Lawrence plays a young mother who struggles with post-partum depression following the birth of her child, was delivered a nine-minute standing ovation by the audience. The film, based on the 2017 novel of the same name by Ariana Harwicz and directed and written by Lynne Ramsay is competing for Cannes biggest prize, the Palme d'Or.
