Robert Downey Jr wins best supporting actor Oscar for Oppenheimer
Actor wins Academy Award at third attempt, for his role in Christopher Nolan’s atomic scientist biopic
Downey Jr plays Lewis Strauss, J Robert Oppenheimer’s nemesis in the Christopher Nolan-directed biopic of the pioneering atomic-weapons scientist, played by Cillian Murphy. It is Downey’s first Oscar win, having previously been nominated for best actor in 1993 for Chaplin, and for best supporting actor in 2009 for Tropic Thunder. Read more about the 2024 Oscars:
