Robert De Niro, 80, says he was in 'shock and disbelief' over grandson Leandro's fatal overdose at age 19: 'I never thought it would happen'


Robert De Niro opened up about the 'shock' of losing of his 19-year-old grandson Leandro De Niro-Rodriguez. The Oscar winner called Leandro's drug overdose an 'awful' tragedy.

The somber words come after Drena, a 53-year-old actress, model and DJ who is the adopted daughter of Robert and his ex-wife Diahnne Abbott, paid tribute to Leandro on what would have been his 20th birthday via Instagram on August 11. After Leandro was found dead in his apartment, a woman named Sofia Haley Marks was accused of selling him drugs containing fentanyl - a powerful opioid which is said to be up to 50 times stronger than heroin.
