Robert Benton Dies: Oscar-Winning Director of ‘Kramer Vs. Kramer’ & Co-Screenwriter Of ‘Bonnie And Clyde,’ ‘Superman’ Was 92
Robert Benton, who co-wrote movies such as 'Bonnie & Clyde' and 'Superman' and directed films including 'Kramer Vs. Kramer' and 'Places in the Heart,' has died.
The result was a film that earned the duo an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay (it contained uncredited contributions by producer-star Warren Beatty and Robert Towne). (with Buck Henry), Bad Company(Benton’s first directing credit) and the original 1978 starring Christopher Reeve (with Leslie Newman and Mario Puzo). It starred Sally Field as a young woman who, in the midst of The Great Depression in Benton’s hometown of Waxahachie, is forced to take charge of her farm after her husband dies.
