Rob McElhenney Files To Legally Change Name


After more than 30 years of writing, directing and acting under his birth name, Rob McElhenney is making things easier for his fans.

The Emmy winner has filed to legally change his name Rob Mac, according to multiple reports, following several self-referential jokes over the years about the complicated pronunciation of his original surname. In 2023, Reynolds penned a song for McElhenney’s birthday about how to pronounce the name, featuring the Wrexham Celtic Chorus and his It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia co-stars Glenn Howerton, Charlie Day and wife Kaitlin Olson. “You’ll probably f it up, but give it a try,” notes Olson before the chorus instructs, “Mack instead of Mick, then Henney does the trick.
