Rob Marshall in Talks to Direct ‘Guys and Dolls’ Remake For Sony’s TriStar Pictures

"Chicago" director Rob Marshall is in talks to helm the remake of "Guys and Dolls" for Sony's TriStar Pictures.

That version of “Guys and Dolls” starred Marlon Brando, Jean Simmons, Frank Sinatra, and Vivian Blaine, and was directed by Joseph L. Mankiewicz, who also wrote the screenplay. 20th Century Fox previously held the rights to the film, with Channing Tatum and Joseph Gordon-Levitt eyed to star, but the project eventually became a casualty of the Fox-Disney merger. Marshall’s credits include “Memoirs of a Geisha,” “Into the Woods,” “Mary Poppins Returns,” the 2023 live-action remake of “The Little Mermaid,” “Nine,” “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” and “Chicago,” which earned him Oscar, Golden Globe and BAFTA nods for best director.
