Richard Chamberlain, the prolific Golden Globe-winning actor who starred in miniseries like Shogun and The Thorn Birds, has died at the age of 90. Dubbed the king of the miniseries, Chamberlain starred as the English sailor marooned in 1600s Japan in 1980’s Shogun, which inspired the acclaimed 2024 remake. On the big screen, Chamberlain was among the all-star ensemble in 1974’s The Towering Inferno, portrayed Aramis in three films inspired by The Three Musketeers, played Allan Quatermain in a pair of films about that fictional adventurer (1985’s King Solomon’s Diamonds and 1986’s Allan Quatermain and the Lost City of Gold) and starred in director Peter Weir’s apocalyptic mystery The Last Wave.
