Reasons for abdominal surgery as Kate Middleton recovers in hospital

The Princess of Wales has undergone successful abdominal surgery that could see her in hospital for up to 2 weeks - here's a look at why you might undergo the procedure...

The Princess of Wales, 42, had the operation on Wednesday at The London Clinic in Marylebone, with Kensington Palace making a statement that she would be stepping back from royal duties until after Easter. Kate is expected to stay in hospital for 10 to 14 days, longer than is usually advised after abdominal surgery, and will then take two to three months for her recovery once she is back in Windsor. Kensington Palace say Kate wants to keep life as normal as possible for her children (Image: REX/Shutterstock) The type of surgery someone undergoes depends on the medical procedure they need.
