"Let it be known: this is a long-overdue celebration," Public Enemy frontman says of funk group George “Funky” Brown’s drums have formed the backdrop to countless rap classics, while the group’s horn section has, for decades, been one of the most fiercely intimidating in music. Fear of a Black Planet ‘s “Welcome to the Terrordome” sampled the group’s 1973 classic “Jungle Boogie,” while It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back ‘s “Louder than a Bomb” used elements from 1971’s “Who’s Gonna Take the Weight.” Chuck D incorporated many of the group’s biggest hits in his exuberant induction speech.
