They were reacting to the opening moments of the Season 5 Part 2 premiere that sees Kevin's character John Dutton dead of an apparent suicide. The admission prompted an airing of Whitney's iconic rendition of the Dolly Parton hit I Will Always Love You, which serves as the film's theme tune. News first started to spread about Costner potentially leaving the show in 2023, amid rumors of a rift between the actor and series creator Taylor Sheridan.
