With Fresh Picks, Billboard aims to highlight some of the best and most interesting new sounds across R&B and hip-hop — from the latest preview of PARTYNEXTDOOR’s upcoming album to Maiya the Don‘s funky come-hither pop- rap banger. “Show me that you need it, that you need it/ Say it like you mean it, like you mean it,” Maiya challenegs a potential lover on “Mean It.” The Bankroll Got It-helmed track banks heavily on the rising New York rapper’s seductive edge, with her gruff tone evolving into something particulalry inviting against the funky left-of-pop/rock production.
