R Kelly rushed to hospital after overdosing in prison, lawyers say

The 58-year-old reportedly collapsed on Friday at the federal correctional institute in Butner, North Carolina, which specializes in housing sex offenders, and was transported to Duke University hospital. In a new court filing on Monday reviewed by the Guardian, Kelly’s lawyers allege that he had been placed in solitary confinement on 10 June and was given medication by prison staff – along with “instructions to take it”. Monday’s filing came after an emergency motion by Kelly’s lawyers in which they alleged that three Bureau of Prisons officials had orchestrated a plot to have him killed by another inmate.
