Questlove Regrets Not Having an 'Intervention Talk' with Black Artists Who Suffered a 'Career-Ruining Moment'
Questlove wishes he'd had an "intervention talk' with some of the Black artists he's worked with who succumbed to the pressures of fame. His Sly Stone documentary, 'SLY LIVES! (aka The Burden of Black Genius)' is the closest he could get to "a press the panic button."
He added that he isn’t exempt from destructive behavior in response to the pressures of fame, which is why he previously didn't feel compelled to intervene. When he was no longer performing in 2020, Questlove said he spent time doing therapy work, where he’s been “kicking the can down the road,” and he implored others to tend to their own mental health. The group was known for late-'60s and early '70s hits like "Everyday People" and "Family Affair," and Stone, now 81, infamously struggled with substance abuse for decades.
