The film followed Jackie and David as they worked to build their Florida home, named Versailles — which has become one of the most expensive single-family houses in the U.S. — amid the 2008 recession. The couple appeared onscreen again for the 2022 Discovery+ follow-up series, Queen of Versailles Reigns Again, which showcased Jackie and David attempting to finish the 20-year-long home renovation. News broke on January 4 that Aubrey Plaza’s estranged husband, Jeff Baena, died one day earlier at the age of 47.
