Punkie Johnson Announces Exit from Saturday Night Live Ahead of Season 50: 'Punkie Out!'

'Saturday Night Live' star Punkie Johnson announced her exit from the legendary sketch comedy show in a video shared to Instagram on Aug. 1.

The actress revealed that "everything was going fine" until an audience member asked what she was most "looking forward to" in the show's upcoming 50th season. Johnson's SNL costar Ego Nwodim reacted to the news of her departure and wrote in the comments, "Love you til the death of me Punkie!! She admitted that she fell on hard times during the Covid-19 pandemic and she relied on "a deal with God and the universe" this past year to know if comedy was her path.
