Like such contemporary producers as Jack Antonoff, Finneas, Daniel Nigro and Greg Kurstin, Perry was almost as famous as the artists he worked with (at least among pop music obsessives). Notes: The Pointer Sisters had had a few hits in the mid-’70s, but few were all that impressed when Perry announced them as the first signing to his custom label, Planet Records. The ferocious take-down of an unworthy lover paved the way for such hits as Linda Ronstadt’s “You’re No Good” and Alanis Morissette’s “You Oughta Know.” This received Grammy nods for both record and song of the year, as well as best pop vocal performance, female.
