Prince William steps in for Charles at Pope's funeral as reason for King's absence explained


The Prince of Wales, Prince William, has paid his respects to the Pope on behalf of King Charles, as he gathered with world leaders for the historic funeral in St Peter’s Square

Notably, Charles, when he was the Prince of Wales, attended Pope John Paul II's funeral in 2005 on behalf of his mother, the late Queen, reports the Mirror. "We send our most heartfelt condolences and profound sympathy to the Church he served with such resolve and to the countless people around the world who, inspired by his life, will be mourning the devastating loss of this faithful follower of Jesus Christ."
