Prince Philip's cousin Prince Michael of Greece dies in hospital age 85
Prince Michael of Greece has died at the age of 85, the Royal was the first cousin of the Duke of Edinburgh and was known for his work as a renowned writer and historian
Born in 1939, ahead of a significant shift in Europe and the Greek Royal Family, Michael was the only child of Prince Christopher and his second wife, Princess Francoise d'Oleans of France. After studying political science in Paris, he returned to Greece for military duty, serving a term in the Hellenic Coast Guard to regain Greek citizenship. Despite political turmoil, Michael was the sole member of the Greek Royal Family to stay in Greece during the 1967 coup when King Constantine II's attempt to restore democracy failed.
