Prince Edward and Sophie are Royal Family’s ‘secret weapons’ as they celebrate 25 years of marriage

EXCLUSIVE: As the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary, a leading royal expert has branded them the Royal Family's 'secret weapons'

The way in which they approached their wedding, as well as how they’ve behaved in the years that have followed – despite being part of one of the world’s most famous families – has been an important factor in Edward and Sophie’s blossoming popularity, according to former BBC royal correspondent, Jennie Bond. Nowadays, the couple are the picture of duty and devotion – while also balancing their lives as parents to Lady Louise Windsor, 20, and 16-year-old James, Earl of Wessex – but that’s not to say they haven’t faced their fair share of heart-stopping moments over the years. The deaths of Sophie’s beloved mum, Mary Rhys-Jones, in 2005, as well as the sad passings of both Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth II also rocked the couple, but the love and support they give one another has triumphed over grief, with them growing even stronger together.
