Pink Floyd Sell Music Catalog to Sony for $400 Million
According to Variety, English rock band, Pink Floyd have sold rights to their recorded music, name, and likeness to Sony for $400 million.
The transaction reportedly took longer due to bitter tensions among band members, notably Waters, Gilmour, drummer Nick Mason, and the estates of Richard Wright and Roger “Syd” Barrett. Much of the disagreement centered around Roger Waters’ controversial political views, particularly his outspoken support of Russia and harsh criticism of Israel, Ukraine, and the U.S. His comments over the years created friction within the band and complicated the negotiations for their music catalog’s sale. The value of Pink Floyd’s music catalog is immense, with albums like The Dark Side of the Moon, The Wall, Wish You Were Here, and Animals standing out as some of the most influential works in rock history.
