Pierce Brosnan Says He Agrees with Helen Mirren Calling Out James Bond's 'Sexism': 'She Let Them Have It' (Exclusive)

Pierce Brosnan tells PEOPLE that he agrees with the opinion of his 'MobLand' costar, Helen Mirren, that the James Bond franchise has historically been rooted in 'sexism' as to how it portrays women characters. 'She let them have it,' Brosnan says of Mirren's recent interview, in which she said she 'never liked James Bond.'

Brosnan, 71, tells PEOPLE at the New York City premiere of their new Paramount+ series on Monday, March 30 that he agreed with Mirren, 79, when she recently told The London Standard that the 007 movies were "not my thing" due to the way women have historically been portrayed in the decades-old British spy franchise. "The whole concept of James Bond is drenched and born out of profound sexism,” Mirren told The London Standard. Though Mirren is not necessarily a fan of Brosnan's most well-known franchise, the actors have identified each other as friends after costarring in Guy Ritchie's new crime series, which premiered March 30 and will air on Sundays on Paramount+.
