Peter Straughan Wins His First Oscar For Adapted Screenplay For ‘Conclave’; Thanks Author Robert Harris For His “Beautiful Book”


Peter Straughan has won the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay at the 2025 Oscars for 'Conclave'.

Directed by Edward Berger and written by Straughan, Conclave is based on the 2016 novel by Robert Harris, whom Straughan thanked “for your beautiful book.” Ralph Fiennes, Stanley Tucci, John Lithgow, Sergio Castellitto, and Isabella Rossellini star in Conclave in which Cardinal Thomas Lawrence (Fiennes) is tasked with running this covert process after the unexpected death of the beloved Pope. Conclave went into tonight’s ceremony with eight nominations, including best picture and director for Berger.
