Pedro Pascal and Chris Evans Vie for Dakota Johnson’s Heart in ‘Materialists’ Trailer

Dakota Johnson, Pedro Pascal, and Chris Evans wind up in a complicated love triangle in the new trailer for Celine Song's 'Materialists.'

The highly-anticipated film was written and directed by Celine Song, whose celebrated breakthrough debut, Past Lives, similarly plumbed the depths of a complicated love triangle. Randy, as Lucy puts it, is the ultimate “unicorn, an impossible fantasy,” but in the clip, it is John who gets the most hopelessly romantic lines (even as he still deals with roommate issues): “When I see your face, I see wrinkles and children that look like you. Scattered in the beginning and end of the clip, too, are some of Lucy’s matchmaking clients, who provide comic relief with their romantic demands: “I deserve someone who fulfills all of my criteria”; “Nothing over 20 BMI”; “I don’t want someone who likes cats”; and the guy who responds to the prospect of a 31-year-old match, “I wasn’t really thinking thirties.”
