Paul Simon Talks About Hearing Loss in His Left Ear: 'I Can't Hear My Voice' If Instruments Are Too Loud

Paul Simon opened up about his hearing loss during an Q&A at the New York City premiere of his MGM+ docuseries, 'In Restless Dreams: The Music of Paul Simon,' telling host Stephen Colbert that “if there's a drum or an electric guitar, it's too loud and I can't hear my voice.”

“If there's a drum or an electric guitar, it's too loud and I can't hear my voice,” he explained to Colbert, who is deaf in his right ear. The 16-time Grammy-winning singer shared that he lost his hearing while working on his most recent album, Seven Psalms, which was released on May 19, 2023. Months later in September, the star said that he was “beginning to” come to terms with his hearing loss at the world premiere of his docuseries, which was directed by Alex Gibney, at the Toronto International Film Festival.
