Paul Schrader to Shoot Noir Film About ‘Sexual Obsession,’ Titled ‘Non Compos Mentis,’ This Fall

Paul Schrader, the 77-year-old auteur who just brought his latest movie 'Oh, Canada' to Cannes, has announced his next project.

The director revealed he intends to start production this fall on “Non Compos Mentis,” a noir film he is currently writing. The title is derived from the Latin phrase meaning “unsound mind.” That’s not all the film is about, as Schrader say the project deals with “sexual obsession.” “It’s about the stupid things men do for love,” Schrader elaborated on stage at the festival press conference for “Oh, Canada.” He and producer Daniel Gonzalez have already secured financing and are in the process of casting.
