Paul Nichols, who saved Baywatch from being axed and turned it into a global TV phenomenon, has died at his home in Weatherford, Texas, just weeks after his wife's death
Paul Nichols, the veteran publicist who saved Baywatch from cancellation, has diedHis efforts paid off, and the show went on to thrive for another decade, until 2001, under the watch of David Hasselhoff. Fellow publicist Les Eisner praised Nichols' influence, saying that he "was largely responsible for branding [Baywatch] as the world's most-watched TV series. While David Hasselhoff had already made a name for himself through Knight Rider, it was Baywatch that solidified his status as an international icon, and introduced talents like Pamela Anderson and Donna D'Errico to a broader audience.
