Paul Krugman To Retire As Columnist For The New York Times

Krugman has been a columnist for nearly 25 years.

“Time and again, he took on the big fights, grappled with policy deeply and seriously, held the powerful to account and spoke hard truths — sometimes as a lonely voice arguing unfashionable positions,” Kathleen Kingsbury, opinion editor, wrote in a memo this morning. He was particularly outspoken in his warning that the government response to the financial crisis of that time frame was insufficient to boosting the job market, which took years to recover. A few weeks before this year’s election, Paul took a deep dive into Trump’s tariff plans, laying out for readers in clear and urgent writing why his economic policy ideas could do enormous damage to American society.
