Owen Wilson Wages a Successful Charm Offensive in Golf Comedy ‘Stick’: TV Review
Owen Wilson puts his charm on display as an ex-professional golfer in the Apple TV+ comedy.
Pryce now spends his days hawking clubs at a sporting goods store in Fort Wayne, Indiana, but still lives a dilapidated version of his old life, driving a banged-up sportscar and treating a McMansion like a bachelor pad rather than let his ex-wife Amber-Linn (Judy Greer) sell the place. To children of the aughts like myself, Wilson’s crooked nose, surfer-blonde hair and hoarse whisper have a nostalgic halo that makes him well-suited to the role of an aging legend, though he’s hardly been absent from the scene as long as Pryce. And whether Pryce is waxing philosophical about the beauty of a rolling green or teaching Santi to calm himself down by humming Simon and Garfunkel, he’s easy to buy as a guy everyone in his life can’t help but give a second chance.
