OutKast and Salt-N-Pepa Among 2025 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Inductees
The Southern rap trailblazers and iconic female hip-hop group are being honored for their cultural impact and genre-defining contributions.
OutKast, the iconic Atlanta duo of Big Boi and André 3000, will be inducted under the Performer category, which is reserved for artists whose originality and impact have helped change the course of rock and roll. With classic albums like “ATLiens,” “Aquemini,” and the Grammy-winning “Speakerboxxx/The Love Below,” the group redefined Southern rap and reshaped the hip-hop landscape at a time when the genre was primarily dominated by East and West Coast rivalries. Together, Cheryl “Salt” James, Sandra "Pepa" Denton, and Deidra “DJ Spinderella” Roper helped bring hip-hop into the pop mainstream with crossover hits like “Push It,” “Shoop,” and “Whatta Man,” while breaking barriers for women in the genre.
