Though it is not the first time the Oscars has foregone performances from the Original Song category, one of the biggest surprises was announced a day prior to the nominations reveal from Academy CEO Bill Kramer and President Janet Yang. In a letter sent to Academy members, the pair detailed plans that aim to honor the city of Los Angeles in wake of the devastations caused by the recent wildfires.
