Original 'SNL' Player Garrett Morris on His 40-Year Cocaine Addiction and Surviving a 1994 Gunshot Wound

Original 'Saturday Night Live' cast member Garrett Morris, who received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on his 87th birthday, opens up to PEOPLE about his wild ride to success.

Morris says that during his five-year tenure on the show, he was also heavily addicted to cocaine — not unlike his costar John Belushi. He says racism was a common theme throughout his Hollywood tenure, although it wasn't as overt as it was when he grew up in segregated New Orleans. "I had run the New York City marathon in 1993," he says, before sharing that he accidentally got caught up in an attempted robbery while going to the store for juice the following year.
