Opera Singer Anthony Roth Constanzo Can Do It All
The countertenor is mounting a one-person adaptation of The Marriage of Figaro at Little Island this fall.
And through September 22, he’ll be a one-man opera troupe, singing all the leading roles — male and female — of an abridged, rearranged, and kaleidoscopic version of Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro. Twenty years later, I was doing a show called Only an Octave Apart, with my friend the cabaret artist Justin Vivian Bond, and I performed the duet between the Count and Susanna, “Crudel! So when Zack Winokur [the artistic director at Little Island] called to say, “We’re thinking of doing an opera, something everyone knows but nobody has heard, ” I knew exactly what to propose.
