One to watch: Brooke Combe
After hitting restart on her career, the Scottish singer returns with a timeless-sounding debut album on her own terms
Now Scotland’s Brooke Combe seems set to carry the mantle of homegrown soul with the release of her remarkably confident debut album, Dancing at the Edge of the World. Swiftly signed, Combe began writingher debut album, but came unstuck when faced by the commercial constraints of a major label. From the fast-paced doo-wop of This Town, showcasing her husky vocal power, to the tongue-in-cheek Amy Winehouse balladry of LMTFA, Guilt’s reverb-laden groove and the wistful melodies of Butterfly, Combe says the record is “the most authentic piece of work I’ve ever created”.
